Bethany Hamilton, professional surfer and inspiration behind the 2011 film Soul Surfer, will share her story at the Chester Fritz Performing Arts Center on May 5 at 7 p.m. Presented by the Delta Gamma Foundation/Everson Family Lectureship in Values and Ethics, this event is free and open to the public. At age 13, Hamilton survived a shark attack that resulted in the loss of her left arm. Just one month later, she returned to surfing and – within two years – won her first national title. Her resilience and determination have made her a symbol of courage worldwide. Now a mother of four, Hamilton shares her message globally: “I’m devoted to inspiring and equipping you, the next generation, and your families to overcome and live an Unstoppable life.”
That message is at the heart of her 2019 documentary Unstoppable, which chronicles her journey as one of the world’s top female surfers. She also launched the Unstoppable Living online courses. Soul Surfer, Bethany’s autobiography, was a New York Times bestseller before being adapted into a major motion picture. Hamilton also authored Body and Soul, promoting healthy living, and two children’s books. Through her Beautifully Flawed Foundation, Hamilton supports amputees and youth as they overcome challenges through faith, furthering her mission to inspire lives both in and out of the water.
